This blood test detects total antibodies directed against the nucleocapsid (N) protein of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. It helps determine whether an individual has developed an immune response due to prior natural infection.

This test helps assess:

Important:
Unlike spike antibody testing, this test does not typically produce a positive result following vaccination alone, as most vaccines target the spike protein rather than the nucleocapsid protein.

What Your Results May Mean
• Positive/Detected: Suggests prior natural infection with SARS-CoV-2.
• Negative/Not Detected: May indicate no prior infection, early testing before antibody development, or antibody levels below detection.
